Continued Lane Closures for Bridge Deck Repairs in Birmingham

On I-459 SB and NB from MP 23.5 (approx. ½ mile south of Overton Access Road, Exit 23) to MP 21 (approx.1 mile north of AL 38/US 280)

BIRMINGHAM – Weather permitting, on Monday, December 10th, at 9 a.m., the Alabama Department of Transportation will continue the Bridge Deck repairs on the I-459 Southbound, from Milepost 23.5 (approx. ½ mile south of Overton Access Road, exit 23) to Milepost 21 (approx. 1 mile north of AL 38/US 280) as follows:

All times below will require the inside (left) two lanes to be closed.

• WEEKDAYS (Mon – Fri): 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

• WEEKENDS (Fri – Mon): Friday 7 p.m. until Monday at 6:00 a.m. (Continuous}

When all work in the SB inside (left) two (2) lanes are completed, the operation will move to the outside (right) two (2) lanes to complete the SB bridges, using the same closure times as noted above.

When the SB direction is completed, the operation will move to the NB inside (left) two (2) lanes and continue to use the same closures and times as the SB direction.

Please note that IF the SB and NB directions are not completed by December 20th, the operation will cease until Thursday, January 3rd, at 7 p.m. and continue in the same manner until all bridge decks are repaired.

This operation is expected to be completed no later than January 21, 2019, weather permitting.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Maintenance Operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
