Birmingham Coalition for Student Mental Health

The Birmingham Education Foundation is building a diverse coalition of individuals and organizations to reimagine how we support student mental health in the Birmingham metro area. We have been working in partnership with Courtney Nelson, Executive Director of Social & Emotional Learning and Birmingham City Schools, and a growing number of organizations that are interested in tackling this issue right now.

We recently launched an online survey and a series of community conversations to hear directly from students, families, teachers, school support staff, & school leaders. We want to be sure that we design and pursue steps that reflect the goals and wishes of the Birmingham community.
Survey
This is a 5-minute survey to ask students, families, & educators about current experiences, potential barriers or challenges, and potential solutions when it comes to student mental health.

Our goal is to get at least 1000 responses to this survey before October 30.
How can you help with the survey?
Can you help us get 50-100 responses from students, families, & educators that live in your district?
Community Conversations
We won’t get all the info we need from a survey. Therefore, we are hosting a grassroots-style series of community conversations. Anyone can host a community conversation.
All of this information about how to host a community conversation can be found on our website below:
https://www.bhamstudentmentalhealth.com/community-conversations
Here are the steps to hosting a community conversation:
Gather 8-10 friends, colleagues, family members, neighbors on a phone call, Zoom call, or at a socially distanced gathering.
Watch our quick video on community convos, available on our website linked above.
Discuss three big questions, available on our website above.
Take notes on the conversation.
Share that info with us through this Google form.
Our goal is to have at least 500 individuals participate in 50 community conversations before December 2020.
How can you help with community conversations?
Can you help us get 3 community conversations set up in your districts?
Can you help us spread the word about the community conversations to your constituents, Neighborhood Presidents?
