Emergency Closure at I-59/20 Southbound area in Birmingham

On Thursday, April 5, the I-59/20 Southbound area is closed at the I-65 interchange, due to construction activities that occurred overnight and created an unsafe condition. The I-65 ramps to I-65 Northbound and South will remain open.

Please use a detour at I-65 Northbound to 16th Street and then use I-65 Southbound to return to I-59 Southbound.

The Alabama Department of Transportation is requesting that motorists use alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this construction to improve Alabama’s roadways.
