'Making More Plants: A Full Day of Native Plant Propagation' is September 29

We're excited about this class, which will consist of both a classroom lecture and a hands-on workshop in which we apply the techniques learned.

Included in the class will be both propagation from seed and vegetative (asexual) propagation. Topics related to seed propagation will cover effective and ethical seed collection, seed cleaning and processing, seed treatments to promote germination, proper sowing techniques and care for newly emerged seedlings. Each student will have the opportunity to sow and take home their own seeds to grow. There are circumstances where propagating native plants vegetatively can produce plants faster and more efficiently than by seed. Topics related to vegetative propagation will cover advantages of vegetative propagation, basic plant biology related to this form of growing plants and methods such as stem and root cuttings, grafting, micro-propagation, crown division, etc. Participants will have the opportunity to make their own cuttings and divisions to take home and add to their garden.

It's on September 29 from 9-5 p.m. We'll be led by John Evans, Director of Horticulture at Reflection Riding Arboretum in Chattanooga and our own John Manion, Kaul Wildflower Garden Curator. Don't miss this one!
