We officially celebrated the beginning of construction on the Sidewalk Film Center + Cinema with a Groundbreaking Ceremony Thursday, January 31. We started excavation work November 26 and this ceremony truly marked the end of that process and the beginning of the build out.

We were thrilled to be joined by several elected officials (pictured above) as well as representatives from our project partners, Bayer Properties, Davis Architects and Stewart/Perry, members of our board of directors, our staff and of course members of the local media. Support for this exciting project continues to be truly overwhelming.

12 weeks into the construction process and and progress is being made each day. Though it is tough to see in the photos our electrical and plumbing teams are on the job site and, perhaps more obviously (see gallery below) HVAC work has begun.

According to our contractors, our project is on schedule, so we still anticipate a late summer completion - and our staff is so excited by the prospect of utilizing the facility during this year's Festival!

If you've made a contribution to our capital campaign - THANK YOU - we would not be here without you!

Make Your Mark!

To date we've raised $4,112,074 towards our campaign goal of $4.9 million, which means, even though construction has begun we are still working to raise the funds necessary to complete this project and open the doors this summer. If you believe in the importance of this project, please become a donor today. It truly does take a village to raise a cinema and no contribution is too large or too small.

If you are looking for a cool way to leave your mark on the Sidewalk Film Center + Cinema, consider sponsoring a seat. We only have 70 seats left! You can read more about the Take a Seat campaign here.
