Food Truck Friday is tomorrow!

  • Food Truck Friday is tomorrow, Sept. 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of City Hall. Come out and enjoy lunch, sweets, and treats from a wide variety of food trucks. Here are the trucks that will be onsite:

PEP hosting several workshops this month  

  • The Department of Planning, Engineering and Permits (PEP) is hosting three workshops this month that will cover several topics related to permitting and inspections within the City of Birmingham. All the events are free and open to the public.  

    • Session A: The first session, which will take place at the CrossPlex on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., will cover topics such as zoning requirements, pre-permitting meetings, and a new online permit guide for the city.   

    • Session B: The second session, which will take place at the CrossPlex on Wednesday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., will cover the permitting process from A to Z as well as a discussion around contractor education and ensuring citizens have the correct information when selecting a contractor. 

    • Session C: The final session, which will take place at the CrossPlex on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., will cover the inspections and enforcement aspects related to permitted and unpermitted work within the city.  

 

Negro Southern League Museum to honor women of the league

  • The Negro Southern League Museum will unveil their new exhibit, “Salute to Women of the Negro League” this Sunday, Sept. 10 at 2:30 p.m. Go to birminghamnslm.org for details. 

Join the city for the 2023 Forging Justice Commemoration Week 

  • All year long, the City of Birmingham – with leadership from our Division of Social Justice and Racial Equity -- has joined with community partners to reflect and remember the 60th commemoration of the heroic events of the Birmingham Civil and Human Rights Movement. During the week of September 10-16, the community is invited to a week of event that will bring about education, healing, and progress. Register for the 2nd Annual Women in Leadership Conference

  • The Birmingham Police Department is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Women in Leadership Conference. The conference will be held on Monday, Sept. 11 at 8 a.m. The conference will be held at The Fennec Birmingham, located at 1630 2nd Ave. South. BPD is collaborating with Birmingham Fire and Rescue to host an event celebrating women blazing the trail in public safety and other professions. Ramsay alumni announce reunion week

  • Ramsay Reunion: The Exception is slated to start Sunday, Sept. 17 and culminate at the Alumni Picnic on Saturday, Sept. 23 with several cross-generational outings and memorable events throughout. For more information email Ramsayalumni@gmail.com.   • The National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims prayer vigil will take place at Kelly Ingram Park on Monday, Sept. 25 from 6-7 p.m.  

 

FORGING JUSTICE POSTER SERIES 

The city's 60th commemoration poster series continues  

  • September is the month we reflect upon the Four Little Girls who lost their lives in the 16th Street Church bombing. September's poster is themed “We Remember" and features an artistic collage of Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley. Free copies of this month’s poster are available in city hall. You can also check out the calendar of events for the 60th commemoration events happening all year at birminghamal.gov/forgingjustice.
