  • Because construction work has started for the BRT West Transit Center platform, which is across from the Birmingham Crossplex and next to the Five Points West Library, a right traffic lane will be closed at Avenue W and 47th Street Ensley between now and Nov. 30. Construction will take place from morning until evening. The address is 4802 Avenue W. Please see attached map to see the location.

  • Today, Mayor Randall L. Woodfin joined BPD and others in announcing new rules and regulations surrounding search warrants for Birmingham police. This new process centralizes all search warrants and creates a process to ensure those who secure the warrant provide valuable input for those who serve the warrant. It requires a risk assessment to be completed before serving a search warrant, among other things. Please see the attachment for more info.

  • If you know a teen interested in sharing their thoughts on a variety of subjects, they may be interested in attending the 150th Elevate Teen Summit, which will be held on Friday, July 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sloss Furnaces.   • Reminder: Municipal Court will be hosting special dockets at Boutwell this week. Please see attachments for more info on the Rocket Docket and the Operation Reset dockets.

  • Eat in the Streets in downtown Birmingham will be held Friday, July 23 from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, July 24 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Participating restaurants include: ZaZa, Paramount, Chocolata, Café DuPont, Helen, Bistro 218, Brick & Tin, and Elyton Hotel’s Moonshine and The Yard

  • A second Eat in the Streets will take place at Pepper Place on Friday, July 23 from 5 to 9 p.m. Will Stewart will provide live music. Participating restaurants will include Jeni’s Ice Cream, BluePrint on 3rd, Bettola, Hot and Hot, Lumbar, Red Cat, Blueroot and Ovenbird

  • The 150th-themed shirts are still available at the Birmingham Museum of Art. However, they have sold out of 3X and 5X. They currently have Small, Medium, Large, XL and 2X. You may visit the museum to buy shirts or order them online. If you order them online, you may visit the museum to pick up your order. They are $10 for City employees and $12 for the public. The code for City employees is BHAM150. If a City employee ordered a shirt last Friday and had difficulty using the employee discount code, please know the museum will refund the $2.   • Boutwell Auditorium’s new concession stand will be open Wednesday, July 21 and Thursday, July 22 for breakfast and lunch from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu includes the Boutwell Burger for $7 and a breakfast burrito for $4. Please see attachment for more info.

  • The Pop-Up Small Business Vendor Classic will be held Saturday, July 31 at Legion Field from 12 to 6 p.m. Visit www.vendorclassic.com for more info.

  • BPD will host a free women’s firearms safety class on Saturday, July 31 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the BPD Firing Range, 114 Peggy Lee Lane. Participants must have a pistol permit, undergo a background check, be at least 21 years old, and more. Please see attachment for details.
