City Of Birmingham Holiday Hours

City of Birmingham offices will close at 12 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2018

Birmingham, Ala. – Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin has announced that all City of Birmingham offices, except for 911, fire and police, will close at 12 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31. However, garbage and bulk trash and brush collections will continue that day until crews have completed their routes.

“2018 has been an incredible year for our city, and 2019 will offer even greater opportunities,’’ Mayor Woodfin said. “It has been a pleasure to serve the public this year, and we look forward to doing even more in the new year as we continue to put people first.’’ 

“I want to encourage everyone to keep the safety of their family and neighbors in mind this season. Please refrain from celebratory gunfire and drinking and driving as we close out another year.”

Jones Valley Teaching Farm launches "Power of Food" Giving Campaign

Jones Valley Teaching Farm has launched their "Power of Food" Giving Campaign. This campaign intends to run through the end of January and raise $10,000 to cover a portion of the 2019 costs of our two after school programs: Farm Club and Student-Run Farmer's Market.

Council approves final candidates for the District 1 and District 6 council seats

On Thursday, December 13, the Birmingham City Council met with 26 candidates who applied for the vacant District 1 and District 6 seats. Six of the 32 candidates who applied did not attend the scheduled meeting. The Council narrowed the field of candidates down to the top three for each district. Those candidates are as follows..
