BIRMINGHAM, AL - Today marks the official resignation of Council President Pro Tem Jay Roberson who announced he would be stepping down last month. The Birmingham City Council has extended the deadline to accept applications and resumes from District 7 residents who are interested in filling Roberson’s unexpired term.
The new and final deadline is Tuesday, September 11 at 5 p.m. for applications and resumes to be submitted to the Birmingham City Council, who will then appoint a replacement to fill the vacant seat.
Each applicant must be able to meet the qualifications and eligibility requirements under Birmingham’s Mayor Council Act when taking office. The person appointed to fill the vacancy “shall, on or before … the Tuesday next following the date of his or her appointment, qualify by making oath that he is eligible for said office and will execute the duties of same according to the best of his knowledge and ability. …” (Mayor Council Act of 1955, Section 3.03, as amended.)
