Birmingham City Council Highlights 2.1.22

Here are a few of the highlights from Tuesday’s Birmingham City Council meeting, in case you missed it.

ITEM 29

On Tuesday, the Council voted to appoint three new members to the Zoning Board of Adjustments. Those appointments are as follows:

Brandon Littleton will be replacing Henry L. Penick with a term expiring November 25, 2023

Lissy Frese will be replacing Gary Nash with a term expiring November 25, 2025

Timothy A. Taylor will be replacing Stanley Turner with a term expiring November 25, 2027

The Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) is a quasi-judicial board comprised of seven members, appointed by the City Council, representing such disciplines as engineering, architecture, construction and real estate. The ZBA handles requests such as variances, modifications and special exceptions.

The Board meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month (except November and December) beginning at 2PM in the City Council Chambers on the 3rd Floor of City Hall. A quorum at any meeting of the ZBA consists of four (4) members. The concurring vote of two-thirds of the members present is needed to approve a request or to render a decision in an appeal.

Due to the fact that the ZBA had recently not had enough members to hold a quorum, Tuesday’s appointments will allow for meetings to be held and for the board’s crucial work continue to be conducted in accordance with the law.
