Here are a few of the legislative highlights from Tuesday’s Birmingham City Council meeting, in case you missed it.

Tuesday’s Birmingham City Council meeting featured a relatively light agenda, consisting of routine items such as weed abatements and bid approvals.
The Council voted to set a public hearing for March 22nd 2022 concerning a resolution that would vacate 18,509 square feet of the right of way near Daniel Payne Drive. The property owner is seeking to consolidate the property.

Graham II on behalf of The Boyd Brothers Transportation and DP Industrial Partners, LLC, owner, so that the owner can consolidate property, Case No. SUB2021-00084. NATIONAL BURN AWARENESS WEEK RESOLUTION
Council President Pro Tem Crystal Smitherman brought forth a resolution in support of National Burn Awareness Week.
Each year in the United States, 1.1 million burn injuries require medical attention. Approximately 50,000 of these require hospitalization; 20,000 have major burns involving at least 25 percent of their total body surface, and approximately 4,500 of these people die. This awareness campaign is aimed at reducing the number of accidents that can cause bodily harm and require hospitalization.
“UAB is the only level one trauma center in the state of Alabama,” Smitherman explained. “They treat the majority of the burn injuries that we have in our state as well as in neighboring states. The importance of this awareness campaign is aimed at prevention and to reduce the number of burn victims that are admitted every year. We are proud to partner with them and get this message out there.”
